Captain’s ship sails smoothly in first 100 days

With Opposition Leaders busy in sorting out cases against them in courts or detentions, powerful establishment happily at ease with the new inexperienced Government. New Prime Minister Imran Khan completes the first hundred days of his Government.

Imran Khan began his innings as Country’s Prime Minister in August, with most of the major challenges of terrorism and energy faced by the previous governments under control.

First proof of smooth sailing of the government is that Imran Khan got a warm welcome from the country’s powerful military, indeed an achievement that none of his predecessors ever enjoyed. Imran khan was not only given a comprehensive 8 hours briefing at the GHQ but was also the chief guest at the famous 6th September Event at GHQ ( none of the two former PM’s since the event started attended this function). Kartarpur Corridor at Pak-India Border opening got materialized as a result of one second hug by COAS, which two Former Prime Ministers Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif failed to do in their tenures. Imran Khan also reciprocated generously, his first Official visit to Saudi Arabia is a proof of that. Imran Khan got a handsome package from the Kingdom, which definitely was to the satisfaction of Pakistan’s Military.

But the biggest visible positive display of the new Military Civilian Harmony was the handling of TLP. In November 2017, Government was asked not to use force by Military to dismantle TLP protestors from Faizabad , Junction Between Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Later on, protestors were given TADA by the military at the end of Protest that resulted when Army acted as a facilitator of negotiations between government and protestors. But in November 2018, the same TLP was cornered, arrested by PTI Government (with full military support). The military spokesperson who in 2017 has asked government not to use force against protestors termed the same TLP as instigator and mischief maker in 2018. The military too had no objection when the credit for arresting and teaching a lesson to TLP was taken by PTI Government.

Imran Khan’s Party is always in the fore front to defend the military from any criticism. Besides all the opponents of PTI are not in good books of the military establishment. This gives a genuine reason to PTI and Establishment for being together to give tough time to their joint opponents. All this gives PTI and establishment a reason to join hands for a smooth sailing.
Secondly, Imran Khan is not facing a hostile political opposition, a role that he himself played in 2013. Imran got into power with his biggest opponents Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz in Jail. Hardly a month after his assumption of PM Office, his other political opponent and Opposition Leader Shahbaz Sharif was put behind bars by NAB. Even though Nawaz and Maryam got out of jail, they because of perhaps some interests decided to remain quite. Another Political Opponent Maulana Fazl ur Rehman after loosing in elections, started to give the government some tough time, but was unable to gain any momentum because of his own weak political position. Pakistan Peoples party’s top leader Former President Asif Ali Zardari himself is busy saving his neck from the cases piled against him and his family. ANP, another major political opponent of PTI in Province of Khyber Pakhtoonkha, after the defeat in elections is facing hard to lead any political agitation in the KP Province. This sets all eyes on the only Political Leader left from clutches of cases so far, that is Billawal Bhutto Zardari. However, Billawal is until now rarely seen as a threat. His party PPP is restricted to Sindh with weak chances of any threat to PTI in Punjab and KP in near or some distant future. Billawal is so far without any sound connections or relationship with other opposition parties, to make a joint political strategy to lead any movement of agitation against the ruling party. Imran is lucky in this regard too that his political rivals PPP, PMLN and ANP do not believe in bringing down government via undemocratic means or hatching conspiracy against governments , as they themselves faced undemocratic forces to topple their governments in past. These things give imran Khan, a safe political opposition side. PTI will not be facing abuses from the container. All this gave Imran Khan smooth 100 days with prediction that Imran Khan will remain safe from any agitation movement by political opponents in near future too.

Another important factor that gave previous governments tough times was media, is now under undeclared censorship and control. The vibrant media that was a major opposition to previous governments is hardly doing any negative campaigning against PTI. With no marathon transmission against PM or his cabinet members, 100 days hardly gave the new government any hostile media front.

The judiciary too is seen to be walking comfortably with the new regime. Neither NAB nor any other higher court is pursing the cases against the new PM or his cabinet with the same vigilance as their political opponents are being chased. The joint venture of courts with the government party for raising funds for dam is making the relationship cozier.

The present regime also did not face the energy crises the government of 2013 faced. The 11 thousand Mega Watts of injected Power, with some more projects near completion, PTI did not face hostile public protests and outrage.

The menace of terrorism that 2013 was in rage was put in control through National Action Plan and several military Operations, making the new government to make a major terrorism free start.

The first 100 days predict that the Government can easily sail through the next 5 years. However, the only thing that can go against the government is the handling of the issues by PTI itself. The only fear and challenge for PTI Government is only from within.
